Books

I have always had a love of children’s books. As a child my mother instilled this in me. I started reading before Kindergarten, as did many of my kids. I am always on the look out for books for my Jackson, and have bought our baby girl a few already as well. I love to buy books for my nephew William and have helped my niece Kristy aquire a library of Junie B. Jones.

Yesterday after work I wasn't feeling well, and unfortunately had to miss a gathering entitled “Books for Kenya”. My boss (principal) belongs to West Coast Companeros, Inc. A group of former Jesuit Priests who spend much time and energy helping the poor and needy. Such is their current project with Ger Liech Primary School in Kenya. They are collecting new and gently used books, and money to ship, as it costs about 50 dollars a box to send. There are many good hearts out there donating both. A wonderful project. Although they do have their own language, all of their studies are done in English.

We know that the reading of good books is imperative as is literacy. A pleasure to imagine those students in that the far away land enjoying a good story sent with love.

Children books are so fun! What a great project to be apart of too. Where do you buy your books? Is there a place better than others for children's books?

That is a good project. I'm all for helping people have an education and reading is the key to that.

That reminds me of a book I read recently, "Leaving Microsoft to Change the World". It really makes you aware of how blessed we are to have books and to be able to read.

And Will has thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated your generosity! :) Now he brings home those Scholastic Book Forms and wants to buy all the books, luckily for us he can go down the list and say, "Aunt Sheryl already bought me that one... and that one... and that one!" WE LOVE YOU!! :)

We love books too. Where to put them all was a contributing factor to our decision to move to a larger house 12 years ago. That hasn't really solved the problem. Books are in our garage in a bookcase and some in the shed. Recently we have resorted to contributing some to DI.

I took a class at BYU in Children's Lit. It was my favorite class. I read Children's books for a grade!

I'm the same way. I remembered most of the books we had as kids and have managed to collect them by finding them at thrift stores or online. I had a HUGE collection of kid books before Aaron and I were even on the let's-have-a-kid page.

Hello again dear friend,
The book project is a great idea. I hope that they collected many books to send to Africa. What a good cause.

We are home again... I missed you... I am glad to be back in touch. Have a great week. Love, Lura

I like many of those books but some of them I haven't read before. So I will have to check them out. Thanks for the ideas!

Great project Sheryl! I have always loved books and also reading to my children. We always read together before they went to bed nights. Each one had their favourites and so did I. I miss those days. I doubt they'd let me read to them now, but then again, I guess that's what grandkids are for!

Speaking of good books, I'm SO excited about the cookbook you sent with Julia for me. I LOVE it. I'm trying the Creamiest Lime Meringue Pie tonight. It looks divine. There are so many treasures in that book. I'm really excited to try them. Thank you SO MUCH!
