"Pete!"

When my kids were small, the favorite birthday party game was "Pete!". This game is played by taking your favorite color candies like M& M's, Skittles, or Runts, and put them on the table in a circle. Who's ever turn it is goes out of the room and everyone else decides upon which piece of candy will be dubbed Pete. When the person comes back into the room, they start picking up pieces of candy which they keep, until they pick up the piece that was chosen, and everyone else shouts out "Pete!". Then their turn is over.

On Russell's birthday this last week, our kids who live here in California all came over for dinner. We missed you Heidi, Matt, Jackson, Cody, Brendon and Stephanie. After dinner before birthday cake and ice cream, I got out the candy bags. Jordan says "Mom, is that for playing 'Pete!'?. "oh, yes" says I. The kids laughed at me for a while until we began the game and then the laughs began. Julia and Breana had not played before and they were up for this game. Everyone was very good at it, and everyone enjoyed the Skittles.

Good times and good memories relived and enjoyed with lots of smiles and laughs!

What a fun game. We didn't know about "Pete" when my kids were home. Is it too late to start a new tradition??? I bet my grandkids would love it.

I totally remember playing that game. We actually had a "back to the basics" night at Enrichment in our ward, where we were supposed to come up with games that didnt require electricity, other things that consume all our time, and I tried to convince them that we should play it. they didnt go for it.

So sad we missed it! Love you daddy!

Sounds like such a fun game, I played it a long time! I also love that all your family got to be together! Larger families always seem like so much fun!

I'm definitely stashing away this idea. Sounds like a fun game, especially if you're playing with M&M's.

Your family is always having a fun time being together. I hope you never doubt your parenting ability. Heaven on Earth.

ahhh, Pete! That was a Tara and Jana staple! I can't believe we haven't played this with Will yet. Well, there's a game that will be played Friday while we wait for fireworks!

Brady's fmaily plays a similar game called "Don't eat Pete." You draw characters on a piece of paper divided into 16 squares. Then you put a piece of candy on top of each of the characters. Someone leaves the room and the group decides which character is Pete. The person comes back in and tries to eat as many pieces as he can before eating Pete. It looks like you can get more candy playing your way! I am all for the Holmes way. Brady and I play the game for FHE or with friends. I love it.
